Inpatient vs outpatient surgery
Your surgical procedure could be inpatient or outpatient. Inpatient surgeries are those that require you to stay at least one night at the hospital following the procedure. Outpatient surgeries are sometimes called “same-day” surgery or ambulatory surgery. These take place in a hospital or an ambulatory surgery center. With an outpatient surgery, patients can go home the same day, usually after a brief stay in a post anesthesia care unit (PACU) or an outpatient postoperative care area.
