Primary Care FAQ

How can I choose the right care option?

If you're unsure about the type of care you need, we're here to help. For minor illnesses like colds, flu, or small injuries, a Parkview Walk-in Clinic may be the best option. For more serious but non-life-threatening issues, like broken bones or severe pain, urgent care is a better choice. If you think you're experiencing a life-threatening emergency, call 911 or go to the Emergency Department immediately.

Still not sure? Call us at 877-774-8632, and we’ll guide you to the right care option for your needs.

Why should I have a primary care provider?

Your primary care team can serve as your go-to for routine care. Over time, they become familiar with you and your medical history, which helps them offer the best, most personalized care for your needs.

Regular visits to your primary care team are an ideal way to spot health issues before they become major problems. If you have an acute illness such as an ear infection or a minor injury like a sprained ankle, same-day appointments with a team member may be available. And if you need care from a specialist, your primary care team can refer you to the right person.

How do I choose the right primary care provider?

Finding the right provider is an important step in your health journey. Family medicine providers care for all ages, internal medicine providers specialize in adult care, and pediatricians focus on children's health. Think about your family’s needs, and we’ll help you find the perfect fit.

Does Parkview accept my insurance?

Parkview accepts most major insurance plans. If you’re unsure, feel free to contact us or check with your insurance provider—we’re happy to help you confirm coverage.

What should I bring to my first appointment?

We want to make your visit as smooth as possible. Please bring your photo ID, current insurance card, and a list of your medications.

If your previous primary care provider is outside Parkview Physicians Group, don’t forget to complete the Release of Information Authorization Formand bring it with you. You do not need to provide your full medical record. Check the Release of Information Authorization Form for a list of records that would be helpful to provide.

What should I expect during my first visit?

Your first visit is all about getting to know you. Please arrive 15 minutes early so we can get everything ready. If there’s a co-pay, we’ll collect it at check-in. Running late? If it’s more than 15 minutes, we may need to reschedule, but we’ll work with you to find another time. If your symptoms worsen before your appointment, give us a call at 877-774-8632—we’re here to help.

What types of visits can I schedule virtually?

Virtual visits are a convenient way to get care for minor illnesses, follow-ups, and general consultations—all from the comfort of home. For more complex needs, we recommend an in-person visit to make sure that you get the best care possible.

What if I can’t make my appointment?

Life happens, and we understand. If you can’t make your appointment, please let us know as soon as possible so we can reschedule. If you need to cancel, try to do so at least four hours before your appointment to avoid it being marked as a late cancel. Running late? If you arrive more than 15 minutes after your scheduled time, we may need to reschedule your appointment. For questions or to reschedule, call us at 877-774-8632—we’re here to help.
