Medical Laboratory Science Program

The Parkview Medical Laboratory Science Program was established in 1956 to prepare graduates with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed as a professional medical laboratory scientist (MLS).

A professional MLS provides physicians with the scientific data necessary to aid in restoration of the sick to a healthy mind and body. The student must acquire skills, knowledge and understanding, as well as a sense of responsibility through observation, performance of laboratory tests, and research and application of those tests to real situations.

The Program is designed to prepare graduates to perform as professional members of a total healthcare team in any medical laboratory environment. Lectures and laboratory exercises in the student laboratory, along with carefully planned clinical rotations for hands-on experience in our state-of-the-art medical laboratory, prepare students to meet the challenges of society's healthcare needs.

Program outcomes

One of the main objectives of the Parkview Medical Laboratory Science Program is to provide students with an educational experience that will give them the best opportunities for success. This is evidenced by the success our students have had in high graduation rates, certification examination pass rates, and job placement rates, and low attrition rates.

Graduation, attrition, certification examination, and placement rates:

The Parkview Medical Laboratory Science Program external certification rate, graduation rate, attrition rate and placement rate outcomes data for recent years is provided in the table below. Each academic year runs from July 1 of a given year through June 30 of the following year.

Year Graduation Rate Attrition Rate Certification Exam Pass Rate Placement Rate

 2019 - 2020

 100%  0%  100%  100%
 2020 - 2021  100%  0%  100%  100%
2021 - 2022  100%  0%  100%  100%
2022 - 2023*
2023 - 2024 (to date)  100%  0%  100%  100%

*The Parkview MLS Program changed from an 11-month rotation-based program with 1 cohort per year to a 12-month student laboratory-based program with 2 cohorts per year, starting with the 2022 enrollment in August 2022. These students graduated in July of 2023, and thus the 2022-2023 academic year, statistically, does not apply.
