Weight Management (Medical Weight Loss)

PPG – Weight Management & Bariatric Surgery offers a scientific, evidence-based weight loss approach that is medically proven to help patients who are dedicated to making lifestyle changes that will improve their health. Roughly 88% of our patients are successful in reducing their excess body weight and achieving associated health improvement!

Each patient is on their own unique weight loss journey with their own story, challenges, and strategy to achieve health. Patients meet one-on-one with their providers to craft a plan that works for them.  What works for one patient may not work for another. We understand that there are nearly 60 diverse types of obesity, and hundreds of associated hormones at play. Losing unhealthy body weight is so much more complex than simply “eating less and moving more”. Here, you will meet with the physicians, advanced practitioners (NP/PAs), licensed mental health counselors, and registered dietitians individually to collaboratively form your plan for success.

Individualized movement goals
We recognize that exercise is not the key to weight loss. Yes, you read that correctly. Exercise is an integral way to promote heart and lung health, mental well-being, and to fight disease—but additional lifestyle modifications are essential to lose weight. We support movement and have many referral programs to help you meet your individualized movement goals. This includes the Parkview YMCA and referrals to physical/aquatic therapy. Each of these programs are here to meet you where you are and help you start incorporating more movement into your daily life.
Lifestyle counseling
A much-needed shift in the approach to caring for patients is beginning across our nation. It emphasizes the need to engage in a healthy lifestyle which includes appropriate nutrition, weekly exercise, good sleep, and excellent mental health. We are trained in offering counseling, direction, advice, and resources to enable your success at making and sustaining lifestyle changes to improve all aspects of your health.
Medication management

Our physicians and NP/PAs are trained in recognizing commonly used medications that may slow, or completely prevent, weight loss. Additionally, many medications increase appetite and decrease caloric burn, making weight gain extremely likely. If needed, our medical practitioners will work collaboratively with your current healthcare team to find alternative solutions to medications that may be adversely affecting your weight loss goals.

Beyond management of current medications, they are also versed in the science and effective use of weight loss medications to support your journey. They are highly adept at managing common diseases such as diabetes, prediabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, underactive thyroid, kidney disease, depression, and anxiety. A meal replacement program is also available for those interested. Meal replacements are an excellent option if time is hard to come by. These supplements should not be considered as a replacement for all nutrition, but as one more tool in the shed to defeat unhealthy weight.

Mental and emotional health support
Nearly everything is harder when your mental framework is broken or not functioning properly. So much of achieving a healthy lifestyle and losing excess body weight starts with a solid foundation in your mind and in your emotions. We have licensed therapists to assist you in conquering emotional eating, eating disorders, depression, anxiety, unhealthy body image and more!
Nutrition education
Nutrition education is a large component of our program. We provide patients with practical dietary and behavior modification options to use in everyday life. We provide support, accountability, and guidance for you to achieve life-long success with your weight loss goals. We want the things you learn at PPG – Weight Management & Bariatric Surgery to stick with you for many years to come—so that, once you achieve healthy body weight, you will have the tools to maintain a healthy life!
