Last Modified: June 22, 2023

Diseases & Disorders, Family Medicine

The National Institutes of Health report that nearly 1 in 3 adults are overweight and more than 2 in 5 adults – 42.4% of the population – have obesity. It’s a health crisis, and one not helped by the never-ending stream of advice from, often non-reputable, sources on social media and the internet. Ryan Singerman, DO, PPG - Weight Management & Bariatric Surgery, is dedicated to being a source of truth for those hoping to make positive changes for a healthier body and lifestyle. Through this video series, he offers facts and guidance on some of the most common misconceptions associated with managing your weight.

In the eighth installment, Dr. Singerman gives some sobering truth about the struggle to give up nicotine and the caloric and behavioral challenges that come with it. While it is critical for tobacco users to lose the habit, a fear of changes to their bodies can be a hindrance. Know the facts so that can make a plan and avoid the popular pitfalls. Dr. Singerman digs into myth No. 8: You can’t stop smoking without gaining weight.
