Basic and Beyond Parenting

Maternity & Parenting, Support Groups

Unfortunately, babies do not come with instruction sheets, and the anxiety about caring for your newborn can be overwhelming. This class is designed to help you feel more confident by teaching you basic parenting skills and more. Partners are encouraged to attend this class, which covers topics such as:

• Infant care skills

• Calming a crying baby

• Protecting your child

• Choosing a care provider

• Understanding infant sleep patterns

• Breastfeeding skills and bottle-feeding

• Car seat safety

The American Heart Association® Family & Friends® Infant and Child CPR and relief from choking course will be taught during the third class of the session.

Three-session course offered consecutive weeks on Wednesdays from 6 to 8:30 p.m. in conference rooms A and B at Parkview Regional Medical Center. 

Class dates: September 4, 11, 18

Nov. 6, 13, 20

Dec. 4, 11, 18

Basic and Beyond Parenting is offered on other days throughout the week and weekends, return to the Classes & Events calendar for additional class dates.

Breastfeeding Support Group - Parkview Regional Medical Center (Fridays)

This group meets every Tuesday evening (7-8 pm) in the Family Birthing Center conference room, and Friday morning (9-10 am) at Entrance 4 in the third-floor conference room. Excluding holidays.

This is a drop-in group, no appointment needed (Mom and baby preferred).   Lactation consultants are available to help with breast feeding needs, weight-based feeding assessment and pumping concerns.

Mom's Group

Mom’s Group is a support group where moms can go to have their baby weighed, have questions answered by a Parkview lactation consultant and RN, and interact with other moms. Mom’s Group also features crafts for moms to do with their children.

Postpartum Support: A Better Tomorrow via Microsoft Teams

If you are experiencing postpartum depression, anxiety during pregnancy or depression in general, rest easy knowing support is here. Sarah Wolfe, BSN, RN, IBCLC, FCN, CPST, Parkview Whitley Hospital, and Alainna Martin, BSN, RN, Parkview Whitley Hospital, are trained by Postpartum Support International to help you get back to feeling like yourself again. Postpartum depression can last up to a year after the arrival or loss of your baby. Please know you are not alone, and you are not to blame. A Teams link will be sent to your email once you have registered.
