Power in partnering with Matthew 25

Community, Heart Health

The Parkview Health mission centers on improving health and inspiring well-being in the communities we serve. As a not-for-profit organization, Parkview reinvests its resources into services and programs that directly impact these facets of life for people of all ages. With such a broad range of needs in the areas we serve, the health system chooses to expand its positive impact by supporting community partners. These relationships strengthen organizations created to reach specific populations or facilitate specialty care for a particular group.

Matthew 25 Health and Care

Since the organization opened its doors in 1976, Parkview has been a proud partner of Matthew 25, a healthcare center that provides quality medical, dental, vision and mental health services from trusted experts at no charge to low-income, uninsured adults in Northeast Indiana and Northwest Ohio.

“Parkview has supported Matthew 25 in so many ways, from funding to volunteers, including many of our doctors and nurses,” Lauren Tosland, Director of Operations, Matthew 25 Health and Care, said. “Without Parkview, our mission at Matthew 25 couldn’t happen. We work closely with volunteers, many from Parkview, who give their time, talent and expertise.”

Serving through specialty care

Through the generosity of providers willing to give back, Matthew 25 can address a wide range of care needs, including more than 20 specialties, like physical therapy, endocrinology and cardiology.

“We do consultations and see new patients,” Mark O’Shaughnessy, MD, PPG – Cardiology, said. For Dr. O’Shaughnessy, time at Matthew 25 is more than just a chance to help others. It’s a legacy. “My father was actually instrumental in starting this whole place,” he said. “He taught us to give back. Parkview is the fabric of the community, as is Matthew 25. We’re interwoven, so having these two organizations working together is so important for the most vulnerable in the community.”

Making a better life possible

The outcome of this collaboration is success stories like Justin Jackson, who came in for a toothache and discovered the breadth of services available at Matthew 25. “When you can’t afford [healthcare], something like this is huge,” he said. Justin was able to use the mental health services, as well as optical care. “I had an eye doctor appointment for the first time in 10 years. It’s all just been more than I thought I could ever get.”

Lauren explained, “Our patients experience so many other barriers besides healthcare – accessing a home, food, taking care of families. Parkview providers are so caring, kind and compassionate to these patients who need it most.”

With support from professionals willing to donate their expertise, Matthew 25 can continue to offer hope to the most vulnerable in our community—treating them with compassion and dignity, regardless of their circumstances.

“We believe that healthy individuals make healthy communities,” Lauren said. “With these partnerships, we can provide the best care.”
