Catching up with Curtis (February ’18)

My goodness, is it really March already? I know it’s a cliché, but time really does fly by (and it seems to be getting faster and faster!)

And how about this weather? (You know I still have to occasionally talk about the weather.) Given the way the month started, with rain, snow and wind, I think we are due for some “lamb” time. It certainly came in like a lion!

Partnerships.

February was a very busy month for the community outreach department here at Parkview Health. I had a chance to connect with some wonderful groups. In the church community, I was honored to work with Trinity English Lutheran Church, Blackhawk Ministries, The Love Church, Aldersgate United Methodist and Huntertown United Methodist

Events.

I had the chance to emcee some fun events in February, too. Through those efforts, we supported The Apple Tree Center in Kendallville, Homestead High School, Little Turtle Elementary and Fortify

Events are critical because they not only allow organizations to raise money and keep themselves afloat financially, but they are vital to raising awareness and getting more people to join the effort. I am always flattered by how many organizations want me to emcee or speak at their events and I am humbled by the value these events bring to our community.

An important cause.

I had the opportunity to learn more about the impressive work our Parkview Women’s and Children’s service line is doing to reduce the infant mortality rate in the region. Did you know, in parts of Fort Wayne, a baby is less likely to make it to his or her first birthday than in some developing countries? That is unacceptable, and Parkview, along with many other community organizations, is trying to do whatever we can to help the cause.

Dozens of organizations around our region came together in February to talk about how we can partner to make a real impact on the lives of expecting mothers and their babies. It’s wonderful to see loving, caring, smart people come together for a great cause.

Now that March is here, there are even more exciting days ahead. I’ve got one project I’m working on that I will be able to share more about in the coming months.  I’m so excited for Parkview to continue to be a leader in health in our community. Not just physical health, but health of the mind, body and spirit!
