Catching up with Curtis (April ’18)

These monthly opportunities to look back at all that is going on in Parkview’s Community Outreach department are coming faster and faster. April seemed to go especially fast, thanks to Easter and Spring Break. Interesting Easter fact: It fell on April Fool’s Day this year, for the first time since 1956.

After my vacation at the start of the month, things really picked up. Parkview has a great partnership with all of the area YMCAs, but one in particular is the Kosciusko Community YMCA and the Parkview Warsaw YMCA, which sits on the Parkview Warsaw campus. I had the chance to be a part of several meetings exploring how our organizations could strategically look at improving the health and well-being of our communities. It is so rewarding to be a part of these discussions!

As always, the month brought a number of special events, too. I was the emcee for the Cross Connections annual fundraiser and spoke at First Presbyterian church. The Parkview Foundation’s Cookin’ Men was in April. It was the 15th year for the event, and I believe my 12th year serving guests. As you can see in the picture above, my old friend Tommy Schoegler has resorted to wearing food costumes to try and get his dish to compete with mine. It didn’t work!

One of the last events I emceed for the month was the Parkview Employee Recognition Dinner.  Barb Richards and I teamed up to host the evening, which celebrates Parkview co-workers who have reached certain milestones of service for our health system.  It is such a special night to see the people who are truly the backbone of Parkview be recognized for their years of dedication and service to our community. As I was standing on stage, watching hundreds of co-workers being honored, I was filled with Parkview pride. I love working for a place that values people and sees them as our most important resource!
