Catching up with Curtis (September ’18)

Last Modified: 9/28/2018

More and more, the month of September has started to feel like January to me, because so many things start back up. It’s a month that very much has a “new” feeling to it.

This year, September brought the return of several things that I love to be a part of: my regular appearance on Star 88.3 and the opportunity to represent Parkview at Promise Indiana events among them. I was invited to be the guest speaker at a luncheon at The Towne House Retirement Community. At lunch, I sat with three gentlemen who were each 95 or older. All three were World War II veterans, and still as sharp as tacks. It was a real pleasure to hear their stories and to be able to express my gratitude for their service.

September was also a month of many emcee appearances. I get to connect with wonderful organizations like Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana, the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Northeast Indiana, Respect Team, Whitington Homes & Services, The Literacy Alliance, Christian Community Health Fellowship and Purdue Fort Wayne.

But some of my favorite events are the internal Parkview events. September gave me a chance to work with the Center for Healthy Living at Parkview Noble Hospital and host the Geriatric Trauma Symposium at The Parkview Mirro Center for Research and Innovation.

The month ended with one of my favorite activities, as I was invited to be the guest preacher at Sugar Grove Church of God in Churubusco. Speaking of honors, the other day, a young couple I know called me and asked me to perform their wedding ceremony. I’m going to get certified and do it. Next fall, I am going to preside over a wedding! I live a very strange and fun life!
