Catching up with Curtis (January ’20)

It’s a new year and a new decade, and I don’t know about you, but I’m excited about the ‘20s! One silly little thing I’m already enjoying, if you’ll indulge me, is the fact that we’re done saying “two thousand”. Now we seem to be saying “twenty”, just as simply as we said “nineteen” all last century. It’s weird how your brain gets stuck on something. Mine was really bothered by the “two thousand nineteen” way of saying the year versus saying “twenty nineteen”. Here’s to 2020!

But enough about the odd way my mind functions! The first month of the decade is in the books and I couldn’t be happier about my role at Parkview. It has grown again, and now under the umbrella of my title – Corporate Director of Community Engagement – the following teams are rolling up to me: Chaplaincy, Volunteers, Advance Care Planning, Patient Advocates, Community Outreach, the Leadership Development Institute and our new Spiritual Development department. I am so incredibly blessed to have so many wonderful people on my team. They all do amazing work for our patients and our communities.

Of course, a big part of my job continues to be representing Parkview in the public and I am proud to do so. In January, I emceed some great events like the PRSA-Indiana forum and the first annual Men of Valor awards. My wife, Jessie, and I had a blast taking part in Savor Fort Wayne, I was honored to be invited back to Garrett Presbyterian Church to preach on the 26th of the month, and to wrap the month up, my team put on the first LDI meeting of the year, where all the Parkview leaders come together for an exciting day of updates and leadership training.

It took a few days for me to catch up with the busyness of the post-holiday stretch, but I’m going at full speed now. As the days zoom by, my focus this year is on consistent excellence. At Parkview, we say, “Excellent care, every person, every day,” and I am trying to focus on the word “every”. I’m bringing my very best to every situation and every encounter I have. I feel like it’s going to be a great year!
