Catching up with Curtis (August ’19)

This post was written by Curtis Smith, Corporate Director of Community Engagement.

This month has always held a special place in my heart, as my wife and I are both August babies. Fun fact: She is only 23 hours older than I am. We’ve always loved being able to celebrate together.

August also provided me with some incredible opportunities to partner with organizations in our region doing impactful work with a variety of populations. My first emcee duties this month were for M.I.S.F.I.T.S. Ministry, Inc., an organization started by Donnie Foster and his wife to reach the homeless and people in prison. This ministry is absolutely incredible, and it was an honor to help them.

I always participate in Connolly’s Eggfest to support NeighborLink Fort Wayne. I love how they connect people and give them a chance to help others around the community.

This month, I was afforded a first-time experience, too. I was a featured speaker at Ocean NEI, a new group assisting area business owners. I shared the story of my journey from television to Parkview and met some wonderful folks.

I also had some fun events inside the Parkview walls, including speaking at our new hire orientation. It’s always so fun meeting my new co-workers and taking in their excitement for joining the largest employer in Northeast Indiana. I also had the chance to spend a rewarding day with a group of my co-workers, working at Early Childhood Alliance, as part of the United Way Day of Caring. Speaking of Parkview co-workers, August is always the month of the Parkview picnic. Thousands of people gather at the Allen County Fairgrounds. I got to call two sessions of bingo, including one session with my leader, Dena Jacquay. It was a great way to acknowledge all of the hard work our teams do every day.

Of course, the highlight of the month was the Global Leadership Summit. I served as one of the emcees and interviewers again this year. It’s such an unbelievable learning opportunity for me to be around the best leaders in our region and to hear from some of the best leaders in the world.

August was awesome, but I am already looking forward to September. I’ve got some big family events that I will definitely write about in next month’s blog!
