Catching up with Curtis (August ’18)

Enjoy this monthly post from Curtis Smith, director, Community Outreach.

August is always an interesting month for me. It’s both me and my wife’s birthday month, and my wife and kids go back to school. Now that I am down to one kid in high school and one in college (which is really hard to believe), August feels different.

At Parkview, it seems every month is a big month of activity and transition, and August was no different. I had a great time at Parkview Field watching a TinCaps game with my whole team. I have the privilege of leading the Community Outreach team and the patient advocates. Our outing was special for me because these two teams are distinct and never see each other at work. It was great for all of us to be together for a fun night that ended with a TinCaps win and fireworks.

This month brought some truly great events I was honored to be a part of, including the Global Leadership Summit. This year’s GLS featured some incredible speakers delivering great messages of leadership, and I was humbled to be on stage at the War Memorial Coliseum in front of thousands of area leaders. I also emceed a fundraising event for the TROY school with my old friend Melissa Long. As a special treat, local artist Addison Agen was there to sing and I can tell you, she was amazing!  The very next night, I emceed the annual Habitat for Humanity Backyard BBQ at the Parkview Mirro Center for Research and Innovation. As always it was a fun night.

Late in the month, I was honored to be a bingo caller at the annual Parkview picnic with my leader Sue Ehinger, Chief Experience Officer. Sue is set to retire at the end of the year, so I am cherishing every moment I have left with her. As the year winds down, I will use this space to tell all of you more about what a wonderful woman she is. For now, I can tell you I am blessed to be under her leadership.

Oh yeah, I also completed my master’s degree in Organizational Leadership this month! August was certainly a whirlwind.
