It's colorful. It looks interesting. You see elite athletes wearing it constantly. But what is kinesio tape? Kinesio tape is a tool and technique used to assist in the reduction of pain and inflammation, assist in the recovery of an injury, provide mechanical correction, inhibit a tight muscle or to support a weak muscle. Runners who suffer from low back pain, Iliotibial band syndrome, quadriceps tendonitis, hamstring tendonitis, Achilles tendonitis or plantar fasciitis can benefit from taping.

Participating in Fort 4 Fitness this year?

When you come to Parkview Field for packet pickup on Friday, September 27, stop by the Parkview Sports Medicine expo booth to get taped for your race by certified therapists like Rob Norton, PT, ATC, TPI, Parkview Therapy ONE. The team will be offering free taping for common running injuries from noon to 7 p.m.

Kinesio tape typically lasts for 3-5 days and can be worn while showering, bathing or swimming. If you plan to try the taping, avoid using lotion or oils, and shave or trim excessively hairy areas.

And after the race ...

Parkview Sports Medicine athletic trainers will be on-hand to answer questions and assist runners with stretching, foam rolling, cooling blankets (primarily for marathoners), as well as food and drinks.

The experts at Parkview Therapy ONE are here to help you run your best race this year. Best of luck to all of the Fort 4 Fitness participants and volunteers!
