Preparing for a year of intent

Last Modified: January 02, 2019

Healthy Mind

It’s that time of the year, when many people choose to reflect on the past 12 months and maybe even dust off those resolutions they set last January and check in on those goals. According to our My Well-Being team, reflection allows us to understand not only our strengths and triumphs from the past year, but also our challenges. It gives us the opportunity to learn and set new strategies to assist us in future challenges.

Here are some questions to ponder as you reflect on this past year:

  • What is something you accomplished this year that you’re proud of?
  • In what area do you feel you made your biggest improvements?
  • What was your biggest challenge? What did you learn from it?

As we kick off 2019, it’s time to start thinking ahead and being intentional about the coming months.

What will be your focus?

Once you have identified your focus, you can then create your plan for the new year. Perhaps you have a mantra you would like to use as your focus, such as: “I am healthy and strong,” or “One step at a time”.

Here are some questions and ideas to consider as you’re planning a healthy 2019:

  • What’s my intention for this year?
  • Consider defining a mantra.
  • How can I set myself up for success to achieve my goals?
  • Who or what will hold me accountable?
  • What challenges can I anticipate and what strategies can I implement to help me overcome them?

Do you have goals in mind, but aren’t quite sure how to achieve them? Try using SMART goal setting to help you identify small steps you can take each week to achieve the goals you’ve set for yourself.
