Cynthia Wellman, MD, FACS, CWSP, Center for Wound Healing, Parkview Huntington Hospital, offers an up-close view of Parkview’s hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) program. This service allows us to provide advanced therapy for patients with wounds that aren’t responding to traditional treatment.

HBOT uses a high level of concentration of oxygen. It’s called a dive because most patients are treated at two atmospheres, the equivalent of feeling the pressure of scuba diving to 33 feet underwater. Dr. Wellman shares more about the extensive checklist used to keep patients and providers safe, and how the team helps patients who might experience anxiety related to the therapy.
