Diamond Engagement day with Joe Jordan

Generosity Heals

Joe Jordan’s career makes him no stranger to active community and nonprofit work. He dedicates his time to encouraging and motivating our community’s youth. As the President and CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Fort Wayne, Joe is devoted to helping children prepare for the future through career and leadership programs, as well as developing health and life skills.

Joe is usually commanding the room at a Boys & Girls Club, but on August 24, 2016 he gave up control to follow along as a Parkview Diamond Engagement participant. He took part in a 10-hour day observing the challenges and responsibilities that make up a typical day for Parkview physicians and specialists.

As a Diamond Engagement participant, Joe had the opportunity to see first-hand the skilled, challenging, and often miraculous work that happens within the walls of a hospital. These moments make up the stories of patients who walk through the doors of Parkview Regional Medical Center and the Parkview Heart Institute, and now, Joe has his own story to add.

Joe Jordan’s Diamond Engagement Experience

My perspective has changed. I no longer look at healthcare providers from the same perspective. Individuals that I met demonstrated to me that they are in the field because of something much deeper than just the financial gain. The love and care that clinicians demonstrated toward every person was more spiritual-like. It seemed that they had a calling to do what they are doing. I left there wanting more, wanting to celebrate these professionals and let them know how much I appreciate them. They are amazing!

From the scrubs to the lab coat, it was a mind-blowing experience. What I witnessed were miracles happening that day. I always knew that the Parkview system was a first-class healthcare provider, but the Diamond Engagement experience just confirmed that and gave me a greater appreciation for the staff.

From rounds to lunch break, Parkview physicians and nurses were very transparent about the fact that the patients’, their families’, and the guests’ well-being are their top priority. The care that Parkview provides is not only transforming lives, but changing communities as well, and that’s so important.

I want to expose the youth in our community to a first-class healthcare system. I believe it would teach them to aspire new heights and fill them with new insights and understanding about generously giving back in our community.

We’re so glad Joe enjoyed his Diamond Experience, and will be able to share his observations with the young people he inspires each day. We hope this behind-the-scenes experience will benefit this promising population and perhaps impact their future.
