The Astronaut Training Program is a vestibular-, visual- and sound-based triad designed to help organize and calm children who are experiencing challenges in navigating the stimulus associated with everyday activities. As Heidi Shepherd, outpatient OT, Rehab Therapy, Parkview DeKalb Hospital, explains, these patients will often seek or avoid various inputs (sounds, procedures, textures), and this program can help build their tolerance so that they can engage and focus.

If you’re noticing behavioral concerns in your child, such as difficulty sitting still, concentrating or socializing, speak with your pediatrician or primary care provider to discuss whether further evaluation and therapy would be beneficial.
