Meet the Program Director

Patrick J. Woodman, DO, MS

Welcome, and congratulations! You’ve almost graduated from medical school or internship; you should be proud of your accomplishments, thus far. Residency can be a challenging and stressful part of your educational journey. The residency Match process can be particularly stressful! We are happy you are interested in Obstetrics and Gynecology, and even more thrilled you are considering Parkview Health and Northeast Indiana. Fort Wayne is a wonderful, mid-sized, Midwestern city with some attractive amenities of its own, but close enough for day trips to bigger cities, like Indianapolis, Chicago, Detroit and Cleveland. It’s a great place for individuals and families to grow.

One piece of advice I give every candidate I interview is this: the program is going to take the opportunity to see whether we think you would fit in at Parkview. But you should also take the time during your rotations, visits or interviews to see if YOU think you would fit in here. The residents in your class and the program faculty may become some of the closest friends you will ever make: that is good because you will spend a significant amount of time with them in the next four years! We want to make Parkview feel like home.

Women’s health has faced numerous challenges in recent years, and the OB/GYN faculty come from diverse backgrounds, with a variety of skills and experience to train you to handle almost anything. These challenges add a level of complexity to seemingly routine patient care. This is not an easy or straightforward specialty, but we will begin to teach you how to address these complex issues as we prepare for your future practice.

At full strength, we will have more than 40 specialists to train you, including hospitalists, gynecologic oncologists, urogynecologists, perinatologists, and general specialists in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Your experience will be varied with a wealth of surgical and obstetrical procedures and a faculty excited and eager to work with you.

We can’t wait for the opportunity to show off the home of Johnny Appleseed, Vera Bradley, and, of course, Parkview Health!
