Applying to a Parkview Health residency program

ERAS®, or Electronic Residency Application Service, streamlines the application process for applicants, their designated Dean’s offices, letter of recommendation authors and program directors. By providing applicants the ability to build and deliver their application and supporting materials individually or as a package, ERAS provides a centralized but flexible solution to the application and documents distribution process.

The first step to applying for a specialty position at Parkview Health is to submit your application, along with other required supporting documents, through ERAS. Your Dean’s Office can assist you with this process. Any information submitted outside of ERAS cannot be accepted.

All applicants for Parkview Health’s specialty programs must participate in the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP). Our programs are ACGME-accredited and only accept applications through ERAS.

Once registered for MyERAS, applicants will complete their ERAS application and submit the following supporting documents:

• USMLE Step 1 score or COMLEX Level 1 score
• Medical school transcript
• Personal statement
• Three or four letters of recommendation
  • General Surgery requires a letter from the chair or program director
• MSPE (Dean’s letter)

Applicants matched into a Parkview Health specialty program must successfully complete USMLE Step 2 or COMLEX Level 2 before starting a program. Applicants are strongly encouraged to take USMLE Step 2 or COMLEX Level 2 before December 31 of the current year to permit reporting of scores before the deadline of final rank list submissions. Reporting of USMLE scores may take up to eight weeks. While not required, all applicants who have already matriculated from medical school are also strongly encouraged to complete USMLE Step 3 or COMLEX Level 3.

No, a comprehensive view is used to determine best fit with a specialty program.

Interviews will be conducted between October of the current year and January of the following year. Invitations are extended by email.

• Academic performance
• USMLE or COMLEX scores*
• Letters of recommendation
• Other accomplishments

*U.S. applicants must schedule USMLE or COMLEX exams and report their Step 1 and Step 2 CK or Level 1 or 2 COMLEX scores to ensure that NGMC can download the results of these exams before the NRMP rank list deadline in mid-February. All pass-fail results need to be submitted to the program at the time they are obtained by the trainee.

All appointments are made through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) in March. Applicants must register through the NRMP website in addition to submitting their application through ERAS.

Resident physicians must be fully credentialed by the Parkview Health Office of Graduate Medical Education prior to commencement of their respective training program. Appointment to a Parkview Health specialty program is conditional and contingent upon successful completion of the appointment and credentialing process, which includes:

• Satisfactory criminal background check and drug test
• Verification of satisfactory prior training (if applicable)
• Eligibility for employment in the United States and in the State of Indiana

Mandatory, in-person orientation begins 10 business days prior to July 1. Resident physicians are paid for orientation days. If applicable, resident physicians must also comply with the credentialing requirements of participating non-Parkview Health training sites.

International medical school graduates (IMGs) will be considered for admission into all Parkview Health’s specialty programs. IMGs must be certified by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG).

NOTE: Parkview Health only supports J-1 Visas.

Minimum requirements for international medical graduates (IMG)

• Completed ERAS profile
• Graduate from an international medical school currently listed as “approved” by the Indiana Medical Licensing Board. If you are an IMG, please click here to verify that your school meets the criteria, and is included on the list before you apply.
• Submission of USMLE Step 1 Score; USMLE Step 2 CK submission highly encouraged. Although there is no minimum score, you must have passed each exam.
• Three Letters of Recommendation, one of which must come from either a department chair or a program director.
• Medical School Transcript
• Personal Statement
• Clinical experience in the U.S. is not mandatory, but highly encouraged
• Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) Certificate acquired at time of ERAS application

Minimum requirements for U.S. graduates:

• Three Letters of Recommendation – one of which must come from either a Program Chair and/or Program Director

• We are an advanced 3-year program starting at the PGY2 level, which means that the medical student must have completed a PGY1 transitional/preliminary year to start our program.

• Provide a minimum of 3 letters of recommendation, 1 letter recommended to be from a practicing physiatrist.
