Thank you for choosing Parkview EAP. We employ some of the best counselors in the region! We will do our best to match you with the most appropriate counselor for your specific situation. All our counselors have experience with critical incident stress debriefings.

Ken Shields, EAP Manager

Ken Shields, MA, LMHC, LCAC is the manager of the Parkview Employee Assistance Program. He earned his Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology with a concentration in marriage and family from Wheaton College and has over 20 years of counseling and supervision experience in multiple settings. Ken’s approach is strengths-based, trauma-informed, solution-focused and holistic in nature. Ken’s clinical focus has been varied with teens, adults, and couples in areas of depression, anxiety, trauma, navigating life challenges such as health or employment changes and substance abuse counseling. His work settings have included community mental health, inpatient treatment, addiction treatment facility, as well as providing mental health counseling within a group medical practice. Ken is also a Tier 3 Star Behavioral Health Provider for military personnel and their families.

Ellen Schlatter, EAP Specialist

Ellen Schlatter, MS, LMHC earned her Master of Science Degree in Mental Health Counseling from the University of St. Francis. She has over 26 years’ experience in mental health counseling in outpatient and residential settings and utilizes a trauma-informed and client-centered approach. She believes each person can manage life’s difficulties, find contentment and reach their highest potential, with a focus on self-care. Her counseling experience includes a variety of areas, including depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, marital and relationships, and she can offer a Christian perspective. Ellen enjoys working with children, teens, and adults.

Jeri Forrest, EAP Specialist/Student Assistance Program

Jeri Forrest, MSSA, LCSW, has a master’s degree of science in social administration with a concentration in youth and families from Case Western Reserve University and is a licensed clinical social worker. Jeri has nearly 19 years of experience working in the mental health field in outpatient, inpatient, residential and school settings. She has experience working with anxiety, depression, family relationships, stress management, grief/loss and trauma. Jeri’s approach to therapy is strengths-based and includes attuning to an individual’s emotional intelligence by utilizing brain-based tools and attachment theory to explore the individual person as a whole. Jeri is trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). She enjoys working with children, teenagers, young adults, adults, geriatrics and families.

Shelly Edwards, EAP Specialist/Student Assistance Program

Shelly Edwards, MSEd, LMFT, has a master’s degree in education from Indiana University, Bloomington, Ind., and is a licensed marriage and family therapist who has provided counseling services since 2000. Shelly has made numerous educational presentations to local civic clubs and schools and at health fairs. Her area of expertise is working with young adults, and she currently provides counseling services to college students.

Julie Shearer, EAP Specialist

Julie Shearer,MA, LMHC, LCAC, MAC, holds a Bachelor of Science degree in counseling and sociology and a Master of Science degree in clinical mental health counseling from Grace College. Her counseling approach is strengths-based and solution-focused. She has counseling experience in a variety of areas, including depression, anxiety, trauma, addictions, relationship issues and spiritual concerns. Julie enjoys working with all ages and has training in play therapy and sand tray therapy specialties. She is also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Rapid Resolution Therapy (RRT). Julie is passionate about walking alongside others to pursue holistic wellness in an empowering and compassionate manner.

Amber Gibson, EAP Specialist/Student Assistance Program

Amber Gibson, MS, LMHC has a Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling for the University of St. Francis and has been working in the mental health field for over a decade. She has experience working in numerous settings including outpatient, group homes, in-home, and school-based services. She has worked with clients from diverse backgrounds and has worked with clients struggling with anxiety, depression, mood disorders, family strife, trauma, life transitions, grief, and schizophrenia. She is trained in CBT and DBT and has her certification as a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional. She is strengths-based and client-centered in her approach and believes that the client should be the driving force in their counseling and treatment. She enjoys working with clients of all ages as well as families and couples.

Phyliis Schreiner-Tata, EAP Specialist

Phyllis Schreiner-Tata received her master’s degree in addiction counseling with concentration areas in addiction and mental health from Capella University. She is licensed in addiction counseling and mental health counseling. Phyllis started working in the mental health field in 2004 and has experience working in inpatient and intensive outpatient behavioral health, transitional living and private practice settings. She has experience working with addiction (individual and family), mood disorders and trauma. Phyllis’ approach to therapy is focused on ineffective behaviors, thoughts and emotional responses that were influenced by relational, biological or traumatic experiences. Phyllis is trained in eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), motivation interviewing, rapid resolution therapy (RRT) and critical incident stress management (CISM). She enjoys working with adults and adolescents and can offer a faith-based perspective.
