Building Mental Health Resources to Inform Families Using Digital Guidance and Education (BRIDGE)

About

The Building Resources to Inform families using Digital Guidance and Education (BRIDGE) seeks to address the challenges associated with the lack of mental health resources, especially during  periods of transition, particularly from adolescent care to young adult care. This period is particularly challenging to navigate with both practical and emotional resources lacking.

Through this project, we are developing an electronic, open access web-based resource for patients with mental illness and their families to support their transition from adolescent care to young adult care. As part of this resource, content will be curated to be easily shared with patients and families as part of clinical care. Potential content areas may include school and occupational rights and resources, legal and guardianship resources, talking points for new relationships, practical ways for family members to remain involved in care, strategies to support medication adherence with independent living and links to existing support networks.

The Parkview Mirro Center for Research and Innovation invited young adults who have a chronic mental illness, parents/caregivers of young adults with a chronic mental illness and mental health providers to participate in this research study. The goal of this study was to improve access to important information that helps the transition from teen to young adulthood for people with chronic mental illnesses. Participants completed an online survey, and some had the opportunity to participate in a focus group. Participants were compensated for their time.

A prototype of the website was created and will be finalized and implemented on the website soon.
