With its first residency program established in 1996, Parkview Health has a long history of training quality pharmacy residents for the next step in their careers. Parkview’s residents finish their residency program well-equipped to take on their next adventure, whether that be a PGY2 pharmacy residency or a position as a pharmacist. Parkview’s pharmacy department is committed to providing a diverse, equitable and inclusive learning environment for all. We strive to train pharmacists with backgrounds as diverse as the communities we serve.

PGY1 purpose

PGY1 residency programs build upon Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and outcomes to develop pharmacist practitioners with knowledge, skills, and abilities as defined in the educational competency areas, goals, and objectives. Residents who successfully complete PGY1 residency programs will be skilled in diverse patient care, practice management, leadership, and education, and be prepared to provide patient care, seek board certification in pharmacotherapy (i.e., BCPS), and pursue advanced education and training opportunities including postgraduate year two (PGY2) residencies.  

PGY2 purpose

PGY2 residency programs build upon Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and PGY1 pharmacy residency training to develop pharmacist practitioners with knowledge, skills, and abilities as defined in the educational competency areas, goals, and objectives for advanced practice areas. Residents who successfully complete PGY2 residency programs are prepared for advanced patient care or other specialized positions, and board certification in the advanced practice area, if available.

Our residency programs

PGY1 Pharmacy

Parkview's PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program has been an established ASHP- accredited program since 1996. The Pharmacy residency program is designed to enhance clinical and professional skills of newly graduated pharmacists. Residents will work closely with experienced preceptors in various clinical settings within the acute and ambulatory care environment. Upon completion, residents are well-prepared for clinical roles or further specialization through a PGY2 residency program.

PGY1 Pharmacy

PGY1 Community-based

This PGY1 residency program builds upon Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education to develop pharmacist practitioners with knowledge, skills and abilities to practice in a wide variety of outpatient settings with diverse populations or to pursue a PGY2 Ambulatory Care Residency. The Parkview team is committed to providing the residents with a variety of patient care experiences that will allow them to become leaders in their practice who will be able to create change and advance patient care services.

PGY1 Community-based

PGY1/PGY2 HSPAL

Parkview offers a 24-month PGY1 & PGY2 Health-System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership (HSPAL) residency. This residency program builds upon Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education to develop pharmacist practitioners with knowledge, skills, and abilities to practice in a wide variety of pharmacy leadership settings with diverse populations.

PGY2 Ambulatory Care

Parkview’s PGY2 ambulatory care residency is designed to develop the resident into an independent, competent, confident and compassionate practitioner with the ability to provide excellent patient care in the ambulatory setting. This resident will develop a core skill set in comprehensive medication management, patient interaction, communication, practice management, team building and time management.

ASHP Candidate PGY2 Internal Medicine

Parkview offers a 52-week American Society of Health-System Pharmacists-Pre-Candidate PGY2 Internal Medicine Pharmacy Residency for one residency candidates. The Program is designed to develop the resident into an independent, competent, confident, and compassionate practitioner with the ability to provide excellent patient care in a variety of acute care environments.
