Meet the program director: Paul F. Conarty, MD
Welcome to the Parkview Health General Surgery Residency!
I appreciate you allowing me the opportunity to introduce our program and what we have to offer as you explore opportunities on your surgical training journey. I’d like to begin by introducing myself.
I have been practicing Colon and Rectal Surgery here in Fort Wayne for the last 25 years. In early 2025 I joined the Residency leadership team on an interim basis to fill a void left by a change in faculty. In mid-2026 I had the privilege of joining the team permanently in the role of Program Director.
Our first residents joined us in 2022 and have been an integral part of shaping our program through their hard work and leadership.
Parkview Health provides truly endless opportunities for a growing surgeon. Every day our team of experienced faculty care for surgical patients who trust us with their care for problems ranging from simple, common issues to complex problems requiring advanced, multi-disciplinary expertise. Multiple surgical specialties participate in our residency, providing excellent exposure to a wide variety of surgical patients. In addition to General Surgery, Parkview is home to many other surgical specialties including Cardiothoracic, Vascular, Bariatrics, Surgical Oncology and Acute Care Surgery. Residents receive training in open, laparoscopic and robotic surgery in addition to a plethora of endoscopic procedures.
Our mission is simple – we strive to provide guidance and opportunity to help you grow into an excellent surgeon. We have a group of faculty who will never settle on “good enough” for their patients or our residents. Whether you choose additional fellowship training or carry the skills you learn here directly into practice, you will be prepared to provide the same excellent care we strive to provide every day to those who trust us with their lives.
