Meet the Program Director
Kevin Y. Pei, MD, MHSEd, FACS

Welcome to Parkview Health’s General Surgery Residency. I am so glad you’ve taken the time to visit us.

Selecting a residency can be overwhelming. After a while, differentiating between programs becomes a monumental task — and maybe that’s a good thing. It means that all the programs you’re evaluating are meeting accreditation standards to provide you the best residency experience possible. But I believe there’s another factor to consider that can truly impact your residency: the dedication that your program and the people with whom you’ll work every day have to your individual success.

So let me begin by saying, “I, as the Program Director, and we, as Parkview Graduate Medical Education, are 100% committed to your success.”

Parkview provides world-class surgical care to our northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio communities. For decades, we have been the trusted name in cutting-edge care. Innovation and commitment to our community are part of our institutional DNA. Our promise to the community that we serve is “Excellent care to every person, every day.”

Among our faculty and residency leadership are phenomenally trained, nurturing surgeons who come from renowned institutions across the country. Our faculty have extensive experience in training and teaching and are excited to have the opportunity to work with you. They chose to call Fort Wayne home for its friendly atmosphere and welcoming community, and to be part of this exciting chapter in Parkview’s history.

Below are our residency guiding principles:

  • Provide you with the resources and experiences that set the foundation to pursue ANY type of career, whether it’s private practice, teaching in a residency or running a research lab.
  • Foster a positive learning climate so you can grow, receive constructive feedback and mature in a collegial, professional environment.
  • Incorporate best practice in education including curriculum, test preparation, feedback, assessment and career development.

Our residency endeavors to train competent, technically excellent and compassionate surgeons. This program is committed to providing its residents with a well-rounded, comprehensive and unique training experience rooted in our culture of collegiality and ingenuity. As a large, teaching, tertiary health system, our trainees are exposed to the entire spectrum of patient acuity and variety. We offer the latest technology as a robotics center of excellence with recent major expansion and infrastructure for dedicated robotic training.  At our state-of-the-art simulation and innovation center, our trainees are afforded the opportunity to become surgeon inventors.

We are laser-focused on providing you an environment of inquiry, advanced facilities and care, comprehensive clinical exposure and research. Above all else, our faculty and surgery service line are dedicated to your professional success. We hope to have the privilege of joining you along this life-long journey.
