Graduating Blackhawk Christian basketball player Caleb Furst has added one last top-notch award to his high school basketball career.

Furst was named Indiana Gatorade Basketball Player of the Year. The prestigious award recognizes Furst for athletic excellence, academic achievement and off-the-field character. As Indiana Player of the year, he is now eligible for the Gatorade National Boys Basketball Player of the Year, which will be announced in June.

He was named Indiana Mr. Basketball on April 16 and the IHSAA 2A Mental Attitude Award winner at the State Finals in March.

Furst, who signed his national letter of in intent with Purdue University, averaged 21.4 points, 14.1 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.2 blocks per game this season, which ended in Blackhawk Christian winning the 2A state championship.

The Braves won the 1A state title in 2019, and Furst leaves Blackhawk Christian with 105 career wins.

In the classroom, Furst earned a 3.99 grade point average, and has been active with his church and other community initiatives.
