You have been referred to the Valve Clinic at Parkview Heart Institute because your physician has determined that you have heart valve disease. Aortic valve stenosis and mitral valve regurgitation are the most common types of valve disease.
Stenosis – or narrowing – of the aortic heart valve is a condition that does not allow normal blood flow through the aortic valve to the rest of the body. If you have aortic valve stenosis, you may not have the energy for everyday activities. However, with proper treatment, you can enjoy life again with renewed stamina.
Mitral valve regurgitation or prolapse is another condition of heart valve disease in which your heart’s mitral valve does not close completely, allowing blood to flow backward through your heart. This condition may make you feel tired or out of breath. With proper treatment, these conditions can be managed and you can enjoy life again with renewed stamina.
