In 2014, Rose McCormick began feeling unwell and dizzy at work. She initially attributed these symptoms to an anxiety attack and returned home to rest. She still didn't think much of the signs until days later, when a dull ache developed in her chest and prompted her to visit the emergency room. There, Rose learned she had experienced a heart attack.
While many individuals recognize chest pressure or pain as a sign of a heart attack, women may present with less typical symptoms that can be harder to identify and may lead to delayed medical care. These can include:
- Shortness of breath
- Flu-like symptoms
- Back or neck pain
- Sweating
- Dizziness
- Unusual fatigue
Rose's cardiac event led her to join the newly established Her Heart Support Network in 2015. Through the program, she gained support from other women who had also experienced a heart attack and learned more about protecting her heart from Parkview experts. Rose continues to advocate for women's heart health and, since then, has become an ambassador for the program to raise awareness and connect others to the Her Heart community.
