Carroll capped off a dream season by winning the Indiana State High School Hockey Association 2A state championship on Saturday at the Ice Box in South Bend.
The Chargers edged South Bend Riley, 3-2, in overtime. Broderik Burge's breakaway goal in the extra session gave the state title to the fourth-ranked Chargers over top-seeded South Bend Riley.
Carroll jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period when Finn Cupp netted two goals in a span of 12 seconds.
Riley netted a goal just before the second intermission to make the score 2-1 in favor of Carroll. The Wildcats added a second goal with 1:56 remaining when they pulled their goalie to give themselves an extra attacker.
Carroll netminder Carson Carteaux recorded 21 saves, including 13 in the third period and overtime.
The Chargers finished the regular season in red-hot fashion. After they lost to Homestead in the semi-finals of the Memorial Cup city tournament, Carroll went on a postseason tear, outscoring their opponents 22-7 in six games.
Saturday's state tite victory avenged a 2-1 overtime loss to Riley in the state tournament playdowns a week ago.
