PSM Performance Spotlight: Anna Appert Lund

August 26, 2021

A Swedish golfer with ties to Fort Wayne is taking the next step in her professional career.

Anna Appert Lund competes on the Symetra Tour, the developmental tour for the LPGA. She recently qualified for Stage II of Q-School, which moves her one step closer to the main LPGA Tour.

“Ever since I was a young girl, I wanted to do a professional sport,” Anna, 28, originally from Stockholm, Sweden. “I did skiing and horseback riding at a high level. But then, I fell more and more in love with golf at age 13.”

Inspired by compatriots Annika Sorenstam, Henrik Stenson and Anna Nordqvist, Anna Appert Lund developed a seven-year plan with a goal of becoming a pro. She set out to play three years of high school golf in Sweden, then four years of collegiate golf in the United States, before launching a professional career on the links.

Anna began playing in golf tournaments throughout Europe, rising to No. 26 in the amateur rankings for Swedish women and playing well enough to get noticed by American colleges.

She was recruited to Morehead State University, earning both Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year in the same season and won Middle Tennessee States Blue Raider Invitational as a sophomore.

Anna transferred to Purdue University halfway through her sophomore season, finishing her collegiate career as a Boilermaker. As a senior, she earned 2nd team All-Big Ten honors with a 17th-place finish at the conference meet. She was also Academic All-Big Ten and an All-American Scholar from the Women’s Golf Coaches Association.

While at Purdue, Anna met her boyfriend, Aaron Hoham, a Northrop alumnus. After graduating from Purdue, Anna moved to Fort Wayne. She won the Indiana PGA Women’s State Open in 2017 and turned pro. In the five years since joining the Symetra Tour, Anna has played in tournaments all over the country. She has holed a 73.72 scoring average and 265-yard average driving distance.

“I see myself as an athlete first and then a golfer, in a sense. I’m a golfer, of course. But I also take care of myself like an elite athlete,” she says.

When home in Fort Wayne, Anna trains at PSM Performance. She can be found working with performance specialist Zach Nagel five days a week in the offseason and when she is in the Summit City during her off-weeks.

“My biggest dream is to have wins on the LPGA Tour. Every year, I want to improve. By PSM Performance helping me get stronger, get faster and keeping me in my prime will help me reach my goals.”
