Former Huntington North softball star Erin Rethlake will become the next softball coach at Huntington University.

"I am beyond excited and feeling extremely blessed to be a part of such a prestigious university and program,” Rethlake said in a statement from Huntington University athletics that announced the hire. “I am very much looking forward to working with the girls, staff and the entire university.”

She comes to the Foresters after serving as an assistant coach at Indiana Tech softball last season. She also served as a head coach in the Indiana Shock travel softball organization.

"We’re ecstatic to have Erin join our Forester family as our new head softball coach,” Huntington University athletic director Lori Culler adds. "We believe the future of Forester softball is bright and look forward to Erin bringing her vision for the program to fruition.”

Rethlake was a standout out softball player at Huntington North, helping the Vikings to a 4A state runner-up finish in 2012, and being named Indiana Miss Softball as a senior and Indiana Gatorade Player of the Year as a junior.

She played college softball at the University of Kentucky, winning 26 games as a left-handed pitcher with a 2.68 earned run average, 216 strikeouts. Offensively, she finished with 106 career hits, 35 runs batted in and 38 stolen bases.
