Alyx Brandewie is returning to Manchester High School's football sidelines this fall. This time, as the new head coach of the Squires program.

Brandewie was officially as the new man in charge by the schoolApril 15.

Alyx BrandewieHe replaces Greg Miller, for whom Brandewie served as an assistant coach from 2016 to 2018. This past season, Brandewie was on the staff at his alma mater, Minster High School in Ohio. This is Brandewie's first head coaching job.

Brandewie calls Miller a mentor who has been in his corner throughout the hiring process, which was led by a Manchester committee over the last several weeks.

"The relationships I have in place give me a great opportunity," Brandewie tells ParkviewSportsMedicine.com. "I know the community, I know the faculty in the school and I know the kids. We can start from a position of familiarity."

The familiarity extends to the X's and O's of Manchester football, as well. Brandewie preaches hard work and toughness as a starting point for the Squires' success. He will emphasize a running game on offense and a fast, physical defense.

"Coach Brandewie is first and foremost a dynamic personality and young people magnet," Manchester athletic director Eric Screenton said in a statement. "Alyx is one of the best teachers you can be around, whether that is in the classroom or out on the field. He is caring, organized, motivating, enthusiastic, and has a vision of togetherness that directly relates to our Squires Athletics culture."

With Indiana schools closed for the remainder of the academic year, Brandewie says Manchester focus things which it can control. He plans to meet virtually with his team in the coming days, set up his coaching staff in the offseason with hopes of getting a full summer of work in. Manchester's first game under Brandewie is slated for August 21 against North Miami.
