Perkins is best known for his play on the basketball court.  He averaged 17.7 points and 4.8 rebounds per game as a senior, while eclipsing 1,000 points for his career (1,374 to be exact). He competes in tennis and track & field at Prairie Heights. He ranks 10th in the senior class with a 3.9 GPA. Perkins is also a member of the Future Farmers of America, National Honor Society, 4-H Club and is vice president of the Prairie Heights senior class. He will head to Purdue University in the fall.

The scholarship is named after former IHSAA commissioner Eugene Cato, and started in 2003-04 as the Centennial Scholarship in honor of the IHSAA's 100th anniversary. The awards will be given out during a ceremony that has been postponed to a later date
