Northrop's Pettus joins Eastern Arizona College

Northrop High School senior Qualen Pettus is heading west to continue his hoops career.

Pettus, a guard for the Bruins, put pen to paper to join Eastern Arizona College men's basketball program. The Gila Monsters compete in the National Junior College Athletic Association and ar part of the Arizona Community College Athletic Association.

He was flanked by his parents, his sisters and his grandmother and joined by his Northrop teammates during signing ceremony February 24 in the Bruin Room.

For his career (as of February 24), Pettus has scored 721 points, 245 rebounds, 62 assists and 65 steals and 35 three-pointers. In his senior campaign, he's shooting 50 percent from the field, including 41 percent from behind the arc. He's also 87 percent from the free throw line. He is poised for his second-straight 1st team All-Summit Athletic Conference selection.

The Bruins advanced to regionals a year ago.

He plans to study sports communications and marketing.
