
Homestead used a flury of goals in a high scoring game February 22 to knock off Carroll, 7-4, in the Memorial Cup Final, recognizing the Fort Wayne Amateur Hockey Association's city tournament championship.
The Spartans were led by two goals by Zachary Juarez and added goals from Ben Jennett, Cody Hurley, Dylan Marks, Collin Showler and Elliot Dougherty to pull away from the Chargers. Ryan Lady and Layne Copeland split time as netminder, making 21 saves.
Chris Wollman scored 2 goals for the Chargers. Grant Palmer and Simon Leininger each had a goal, as well. Jarred Rinehold and Carson Carteaux combined for 38 saves in the loss.
Homestead avenged a 4-2 loss to Carroll in last year's Memorial Cup championship game. The Spartans were 5-1 against the Chargers this season.
Homestead adds the Memorial Cup to the Roy Chin Cup, which is the regular season championship award. The Spartans now turn to the 4A state tournament February 28 through March 1 in South Bend. Homestead has also been invited to the USA Hockey national tournament March 26-30 in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.
