Concordia's Cates running at IUPUI

Concordia Lutheran High School senior Ellie Cates will further her running career at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis.

Cates signed with the women's cross country and track & field programs at IUPUI, an NCAA Division I program, during a signing ceremony November 21 at the Concordia Worship Conference Center. Cates ran phenominally all season, winning the Kokomo Taylor Invitational and Marion Invitational during the regular season. She finishing as the runner-up at the Summit Athletic Conference championships, the Northrop sectional and the West Noble regional; 4th at the New Haven semi-state; and 13th at state. She set her personal best of 18:16 in the 5,000-meter cross country distance at semi-state.

In her junior track season, she placed 3rd in the 1600-meter run at sectionals and 4th in the event at regionals, and finished 4th at sectional in the 3200-meter run.

Cates plans to study biomedical informatics, which studies statistical trends in the healthcare field.
