South Side's Jaci Jones picks IUPUI for college hoops

South Side High School senior Jaci Jones has decided to play her college basketball at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis.

Jones announced her new committment via Twitter on April 4. IUPUI is an NCAA Division I program that plays in the Horizon League, and is coming off its first conference tournament championship and NCAA Tournament bid before the remainder of the season was canceled.

 


Jones signed her national letter of intent with the University of Detroit Mercy on November 15, but reopened her committment after Detroit made a coaching change in March. 

 


"I’m thankful for God, first of all, and for my family for helping me through this bump in the road," Jones tweeted. "One door closes, another one opens. Thanks to everyone that has been supportive through all of this."

Jones averaged 15.1 points, 3.9 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.5 steals per game as a senior. The Lady Archers finished 16-9 and 9-3 in the Summit Athletic Conference, for which she earned 1st team All-Conference honors and was named to Hoosier Basketball Magazine's Top 60 senior girls across the state.

She scored a Parkview Sports Medicine SAC Holiday Tournament single-game record 41 points in the semi-final. against Northrop.

 

 


During her time at South Side, the Lady Archers have won a Parkview Sports Medicine SAC Holiday Tournament championship and a sectional title.
