West Noble names annual cross country invitational for late coach Schlemmer

West Noble High School's longtime cross country invitational now bears the name of beloved former coach Chuck Schlemmer.

More than 1,900 runners competed in the newly-renamed Chuck Schlemmer Memorial Cross Country Invitational on September 21 on the Ligonier campus.

"He would have absolutely loved this day," West Noble athletic director Tom Schermerhorn said while announcing the tribute to Schlemmer, who passed away August 21 ast age 58.

Schlemmer taught and coached cross country and track & field at West Noble for 24 years, including 20 as head coach before retiring in 2017.


The Chuck Schlemmer Memorial Cross Country Invitational dates back 49 years, and features high school, middle school varsity and middle school reserve races for both boys and girls. Bishop Dwenger's girls Homestead's boys won the high school races, Woodside's girls and Westview's boys swept the varsity and reserve middle school races.
