The 2019 girls golf team is off to a hot start, as it looks to win the ACAC Round Robin championship for the fourth consecutive season and the ACAC Tournament for the third consecutive season.
The team is undefeated in five matches and also placed 3rd out of 11 at the South Adams Ladies Golf Invitational. The team has seven matches remaining before ACAC and Sectional tournament time in September.
On Aug. 15, the Heritage ladies shot a team total of 206, beatingSouthern Wells (219) and Adams Central (220). Leading the way was senior, Abby Sheehan, with a score of 48, and the team’s top four was rounded out by Cassidy Myers (51), Carley Rodenbeck (53), and Shelby Schane (54).
A major highlight for the team came on Monday, Aug. 12, when it set a new team record the lowest score in a round. Led by Rodenbeck with an impressive team low score of 41 and Sheehan with a 42, the team shot a total of 175, beating Jay County, South Adams, and Woodlan.
“I will never forget the moment I found out that we broke Heritage’s school record for the lowest score. I was overcome with excitement,” said Rodenbeck, after her season-low score helped the ladies reach the triumph.
Previously, the team had also defeated Westview, Concordia, and Snider in separate matches.
The team will look to keep rolling on Saturday, Aug. 17, as it competes in the Concordia Invitational at Foster Park and will be preparing for the ACAC Tournament on Sept. 7.
