Admiration for Archers' tradition key for new South Side AD Torrey Curry

October 31, 2018

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – South Side High School welcomed this week Torrey Curry as the new Archers athletic director.

Curry’s elevation to the position was approved Monday by the Fort Wayne Community Schools board.

“Being an athletic director is an ultimate career goal for me,” Curry tells ParkviewSportsMedicine.com. "My wife and I thought about it, and we were thinking 7 or more years down the road. But sometimes doors of opportunity open at a time, and you have to jump through it."

Curry comes to South Side after teaching 12 years at Miami Middle School, and taught for 6 years at Harrison Hill Elementary School before that. He also has an extensive coaching background across the area with assistant football coaching jobs at North Side, Wayne, Elmhurst and New Haven. Curry served as the last girls track coach at Elmhurst when it closed in 2010.

“I know the neighborhoods and the kids who attend South Side. There's definitely a connection that this feels like the right place at the right time."

Curry, a Switzerland County, Ind., native, came to Northeast Indiana to run track at Tri-State University. He says he hopes to carry on the rich tradition of Archers athletics, and has already met with South Side alumni as he learns the day-to-day operations of the athletic office.

"There are a lot of people who love South Side, and that makes it really easy to step in a role to carry on those traditions," he adds.

South Side is one of 25 high schools in Northeast Indiana and Northwest Ohio that partners with Parkview Sports Medicine for athletic training, nutrition and athletic rehabilitation and other medical services for Archer student-athletes. Learn more atParkviewSportsMedicine.com.
