Concordia's Walz makes the grade as Academic All-America

March 9, 2018

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - A Concordia Lutheran High School senior has earned high honors for his work in the classroom in conjunction with his time in the pool.

Nathan Walz, who swam 4 years for the Cadets, has been named High School Academic All-America by the National Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association of America, Inc.

He was nominated by his head coach Sean Gibson after Walz posted a 4.05 grade point average for 7 semesters and lettered in swimming as a senior at Concordia, one of 25 high schools in the region that partners with Parkview Sports Medicine for athletic training and other medical services for student athletes.

Walz swam in the 500-yard and 200-yard freestyle events; and was part of a Concordia team that won the Summit Athletic Conference championship this season. He is also part of the Marching Cadets band.

Walz plans to either attend the University of Notre Dame and study architecture or Concordia University Chicago and study music education. He would like to continue swimming on an intramural or recreational swim leagues after high school.
