Snider athletic director Steve Ziembo has been recognized as the state's top wrestling official.
Ziembo, who has been a licensed wrestling official for 19 years, was honored with the 2023-24 Interscholastic Athletic Official Award ahead of the championship matches at the IHSAA State Finals on Saturday. Ziembo was selected for by a committee representing 24 officials associations in Indiana.
"Officials selected for this distinction have gone above and beyond," the IHSAA said in a statement featured in the Wrestling State Finals program. "Each have shown exceptional qualities of leadership, dedication, and loyalty to their sport, our student-athletes and their fellow officials."
This was the sixth State Finals that Ziembo officiated. He's also worked 17 sectionals, 13 regional and 10 semi-states as a member of the Calumet Officials Association and Northeastern Officials Association. Ziembo has also helped with the recruitment and training of officials in Northeast Indiana.
Ziembo wrestled at Bishop Dwenger High School, and started his coaching career at Snider in 1999. He became Snider athletic director in 2014.
