Thompson takes over as Huntington North hoops head coach

May 8, 2023

Huntington North has hired a new boys basketball coach.

Eric Thompson will take over the Vikings hoops program, the school announced Monday after the Huntington County Community Schools board approval. He will also teach social studies at Huntington North.

"I've always had my eye on this place," Thompson said publicly at the school board meeting. "It's great how things worked out. I'm very excited to get started."

Thompson comes to Huntington with 23 years of coaching experience. He won 212 games over 16 seasons in two stints as head coach at Peru High School.  He led the Tigers to four sectional championships—including back-to-back titles the past two years—and three conference titles (Mid-Indiana Conference in 2006 and 2010, Three Rivers Conference this season). In between his runs at Peru, Thompson was head coach at Manchester for five seasons, winning 62 games and a TRC championship in 2015. His first head coaching job was at LaVille in 2002.

Huntington is one of 31 high schools that partners with Parkview Sports Medicine for athletic training, nutrition, sports performance training, athletic rehab and other sports medicine services for Viking student-athletes. Learn more at www.parkviewsportsmedicine.com.
