Longtime volleyball teammates Lexa Zimmerman and Loretta Pelkington held a signing ceremony together Thursday at Empowered Sports Club in Fort Wayne.
Lexa, a libero/defensive specialist from Bishop Dwenger High School, is joining Marian University, an NAIA school in Indianapolis. Lexa earned 1st Team All-Summit Athletic Conference honors as a senior. She recorded 411 digs and 34 serving aces. She plans to study nutrition.
Fellow Lady Saint, Loretta Pelkington, signed with Indiana University East, an NAIA school in Richmond. The middle blocker had 140 kills, 62 blocks and 29 digs in her senior campaign. She, too, earned 1st Team All-SAC honors.
Together, they were part of a Dwenger team that won the 3A state championship in 2021 and part of an Empowered Elite Black team that were national 17U national champions last summer, and finished 3rd in the nation as an 18U team a year ago.
