Brandewie becomes new football coach at Eastside

Alyx Brandewie

The Eastside Blazers have found their new football coach in Alyx Brandewie.

Brandewie's hiring was approved by the DeKalb County Eastern Community School board last week. The hiring was announced by the school on Tuesday.

Brandewie comes to Eastside after three seasons as head coach at Manchester High School, going 8-22. The Squires advanced to the 2A Sectional 35 semi-finals last season.

"Grateful for this opportunity and ready to get started," Brandewie tweeted (@CoachBrandewie). "I can't wait to keep raising #TheStandard and get to work with a group of relentless athletes and coaches."

Brandewie was recognized as honorable mention selection for Region 5 in the Indianapolis Colts/NFL Coach of the Week program for Week 1 of 2020--his first win as a head coach.

Prior to joining the head coaching ranks, Brandewie was an assistant coach at Manchester from 2016 to 2018, and at Minster High School in Ohio (his alma mater) in the 2019 campaign.

Brandewie replaces Todd Mason, who stepped down after six seasons coaching Eastside. The Blazers went 54-18 with a regional championship, two sectional titles and five Northeast Corner Conference Small Division titles during that timeframe.
