Blackhawk Christian storms back to win 1A state volleyball championship

Blackhawk Christian rallied from 2-1 set deficit to win the IHSAA 1A Volleyball State Championship on Saturday.

The #4 Braves beat #2 Tecumseh in a five-set thriller to win their second state title in program history.

The two teams alternated set wins, with Tecumseh winning Set 1 (25-21) and Set 3 (25-12). Blackhawk Christian responded by taking Set 2 (25-13) and Set 4 (25-20). The Braves closed out the title game with a 15-5 win of Set 5.

As a team, Blackhawk Christian set 1A State Finals records with hitting percentage (.196) and total blocks (17).

Allie Boyer led Blackhawk Christian with 17 kills, surpassing 1,000 for her career.

Abbie Cresse added 11 kills and a 1A State Finals record three blocks.

Delaney Kintz added a 1A State Finals record nine assisted and total blocks.

Leena Leichty recorded 40 assists.

Tecumseh tallied 22 team kills and five service aces.

Blackhawk Christian last won the 1A state championship in 2016. Tecumseh played in its first IHSAA State Finals.

Blackhawk Christian is one of 31 high schools that partner with Parkview Sports Medicine for athletic training, nutrition, sports performance training, athletic rehab and other sports medicine services.
