Leo girls soccer falls short in 2A state title game

October 29, 2022

Leo's dream season finished Friday with a runner-up finish at the IHSAA State Finals.

The Lady Lions fell to top-ranked Evansville Memorial, 4-0, in the 2A title game at Carroll Stadium on the campus of IUPUI. Memorial (22-0-1) repeats as 2A state champs.

Memorial midfielder Ella Hamner scored a hat trick through 53 minutes of game action. In all, the Lady Tigers outshot Leo 27-7. Three of Leo's shots were on goal, in contrast to 10 shots on goal for Memorial.

Leo goalkeeper Mallory Michmerhuizen conceded four goals, but also had six saves.

The Lady Lions finish the season 18-5 with back-to-back NE8, sectional and regional championships, and their first semi-state title in school history.
