Jason Doerffler has been named the new head football coach at Leo High School. the school announced Tuesday.
Doerffler comes to Leo after nine seasons at Northrop. The hire was approved by the East Allen County Schools board.
At Northrop, Jason Doerffler was 23-58. He was named Colts/NFL Coach of the Week following a 25-21 win over Homestead in Week 1 of the 2020 season. In 2019, the Bruins won their first postseason game in 15 years (24-6 over Goshen).
Doerffler follows Jared Sauder, who stepped down in March to take an assistant principal position at Leo. The Lions won 76 percent of their games in 16 seasons under Sauder. As a program, Leo has had just four head coaches in the last 35 years:
- Jason Doerffler, 2022
- Jared Sauder, 2016-2021
- Brock Rohrbacher, 1999-2006
- Rick Lightfoot, 1987-1998
Northrop has yet to name a new head coach for its football team.
