Child Life Practicum

Thank you for your interest in our child life practicum at Parkview Health. We know being a student navigating the child life journey it can be a stressful, challenging, and fearful time. Our child life team strives to make this journey the best it can be for our students, providing our students with nothing short of a wonderful experience is our goal each and every semester.

We know COVID has added to the stress of students and it has been a difficult time for all of us. Therefore, we have put careful thought and consideration into our practicum program moving forward with the unknown. It is with sadness, but in hopes of reducing your stress, that we have decided to postpone our program until further notice. We wish to not add to the stress of students by allowing applications to be submitted with the possibility of being accepted and then leaving our selected student hanging until we are able to provide them with a full experience practicum.

Please stay tuned to our website for further updates. We will continue to follow the ACLP internship application deadlines upon our program return. Feel free to reach out to our team via email with any questions.

The Child Life Team at Parkview Health is pleased to offer a Child Life Practicum opportunity for each of the three semesters annually (Winter/Spring, Summer, and Fall). The practicum is 120 hours and encompasses an intensive job shadow. The Child Life Team provides practicum students with the opportunity to develop and enhance their professional skills through onsite learning, primarily in the emergency department, pediatric inpatient unit, and pediatric intensive care unit. Occasionally, opportunities arise for students to observe Child Life providing services in other areas of the hospital such as our adult and outpatient units.

Students utilize observational opportunities with patients and their families to help them attain the skills needed to provide appropriate programming for children of all age groups, cultures, and medical needs. All practicum students are supervised under the direction of a Certified Child Life Specialist. We do accept students with or without a college affiliation.

AApplicants must meet specific criteria to be considered for our practicum program. Please see our application for more details. Our application deadlines and offer dates follow the ACLP internship application deadlines. Please refer to the ACLP website for these dates.
