Heidi Krause, LSW, licensed social worker, has been serving the men and women of Adams County through Parkview Behavioral Health Institute, for two years.

“I started in pre-law and business,” she said. “My freshman year I explored next steps and came back to my core principle of wanting to help people.” This led her to change course and pursue a degree in human services and move into social work to become a therapist.

Local connection

Heidi appreciates the opportunity to serve the Decatur community. “This position allowed me to stay local and be close to my kids and husband,” she said.

It’s that familiarity that makes the win of the work even more rewarding. “The best parts of my job are when clients light up and the light comes back on in their eyes when they realize they are not to blame or it’s not their fault things happen to them,” she said.

“With our Substance Use IOP, it’s when someone graduates or connect to material or with another member and watching that support blossom. When I see them using skills we’ve gone over or setting boundaries. Utilizing things we’ve worked on.”

Parkview pride

For Heidi, it means a lot to work for a healthcare organization whose name is established and recognized in the local community.

“When I hear ‘bleed green’ I think of growth for my clients and myself,” she shared. “It’s about taking inventory and seeking guidance as needed. It’s about safety for my clients and myself, and striving for excellence every day to better my clients.”

She’s grateful for the support Parkview has provided on her professional path, from internship to her role as a full-time therapist. “I’ve been supported every step of the way. I love the team of co-workers I’ve connected with.”
